University-Shenandoah Symphony Orchestra (USSO) is a semi-professional student/community
orchestra which brings quality musical programs to the Shenandoah Valley. Conducted by Barry Kolman, professional
musicians join local residents and advanced students in 3-4 programs a year.

The Chamber Singers is a 26-member, highly select ensemble conducted by Gordon Spice. Membership is open to all W&L sophomores, juniors,
and seniors by audition.

University Jazz Ensemble, directed by Chris Magee, was formed
in 1996 and has grown steadily since its inception. The repertoire of the ensemble ranges from classics from
the glory days of the big band to world premiere compositions.

The University Chorus is a 60-member auditioned choir which presents several concerts each year. Conducted by Jerry Myers, the Chorus performs classical choral standards to jazz and contemporary to gospel. Membership is open to all W&L students with audition.

University Wind Ensemble, conducted by Barry Kolman, is a Concert Band consisting of approximately 65 talented college
students and local residents who perform two to three concerts on campus each academic
year.

The Department's three student-directed ensembles are open to all W&L students. Auditions are held each term as space becomes available. The a cappella groups cannot be taken for credit.
