The Juilliard String Quartet champions the cause of chamber music through pedagogy and public performance. Its members are dedicated to bringing the works of contemporary composers such as Elliott Carter, Gunther Schuller, and Ralph Shapey to the same vibrant life that they call forth from the music of Beethoven, Mendelssohn and other acknowledged masters of the classical tradition. In keeping with its mission, the Quartet also specializes in rescuing underperformed masterworks from obscurity and in mentoring the very best young chamber musicians.
